Under the French regime, there was little development.
Some permanent establishments saw the light of day around the peninsula.
Wolfe’s troops destroyed them in 1758.
But shortly after the conquest there was an event ofsignificance:
the arrival of a Jersey fishing company.
At the dawn of industrialization, the site became a model of capitalist exploitation.
Women, men, old and young worked the production line.
